The ABC's of CRJ
Below you will find a glossary of terms commonly used at CRJ.
Beit Midrash: means house of learning and is the umbrella name for all our youth education programs. These programs primarily run on Sunday mornings. The following programs fall under the Beit Midrash umbrella:
JEEP – The Steinmetz Family Jewish Education and Engagement Program: This is for learners who are in K – 6th grade. JEEP engages students in meaningful experiential learning that is relevant to their lives. Through teaching core Jewish values and competencies, we enhance Jewish identity, a sense of belonging to the Jewish people, a connection to Israel and a commitment to Judaism and repairing the world.
Making Mitzvot: Program for 7th graders where they combine learning about mitzvot, understanding how to use your time/energy to positively impact your community, reflection and fun.
Pre-K Program: for children who are 4 (and in Pre-K). Children will explore Judaism, Jewish holidays, traditions and values through art, music, stories, games and many other interactive experiences. This is a great introduction to our JEEP program.
Torah Tots: parent & child class for 2- & 3-year-olds. Parents & children will explore Jewish holidays, traditions and values in a whole new way – engaging in a variety of experiences like hands-on activities, music, art & storytelling.
Yala: program for 8th – 12th graders that focuses on conversations, and situations affecting young adults including morality, ethics and spirituality along with incorporating different activities such as art & cooking.
Care Team: The care for members of CRJ who need extra non-medical assistance and support. They will prepare and deliver meals, make hospital or home visits, support your caregivers, or drive you to services.
Friday Night Shabbat Services: Every Friday night there are services to welcome in Shabbat. Some weeks there are special/themed Shabbat services, including:
Ask Me Anything: Throughout the year, Rabbi Jackson will have a dedicated time during the service to ask her anything.
JEEP led Services: four times this year, different grades will help lead services.
Learners Shabbat: Three times this year, part of the service will be dedicated to learning the why’s and how’s of prayers at CRJ.
Simcha Shabbat: On the last Friday of each month, we celebrate birthdays, anniversaries or other special milestones that have occurred that month and Sisterhood provides Oneg after services.
Lifelong Learning: Education for our adult learners. Throughout the year, we will offer engaging learning opportunities for our adult members.
Parent Pit Crew: The parent organization of JEEP. They provide support to CRJ & Beit Midrash staff, provide opportunities for cultural and social engagement for Beit Midrash parents, and foster community among Beit Midrash parents and students.
Off Roading Events: Sunday afternoon events for Beit Midrash families to attend. These events are fun, social outings where kids and parents can connect with each other.
Pit Stop: On Sundays there will be a coffee station set up at CRJ for parents to stop by and grab a cup of coffee and chat with other parents. Some weeks there will be a light nosh out as well. This was called Café Shalom in previous years.
Parent Events: A chance for parents to connect with each other and spend time with other parents.
Sisterhood: This is the group for the women of CRJ. They are committed to social action in our community at large and enjoy the spirit of connection with other like-minded women. All members, diverse in age and experience, contribute their time as they are able. Sisterhood has a variety of events and programs throughout the year.

JR GORFTY programs bring together Jewish middle schoolers for innovative, diverse & FUN programs. Some JR GORFTY programs will occur on Sunday afternoon (after Beit Midrash is over), while others will occur at fun off-site locations.
GORFTY: This is the name of the youth group for our 9th – 12th graders. GORFTY stands for Greater Orlando Reform Federation of Temple Youth. GORFTY is for teens who are in our Orlando community – you don’t have to be a member of CRJ or part of Yala to attend GORFTY events. GORFTY offers cool programs connecting fun, social action, leadership, community and Judaism. GORFTY’s wide range of programs and events give everyone an opportunity to participate on the days that work for them. GORFTY is a great place to meet other Jewish teens and create friendships.
