Ma Nishtana?
What makes JEEP different from other Religious Schools?
1. The entire school only meets once per week (on Sundays)!
2. A few times a year, classes take place off-campus!
3. Parents get to learn with their children!
4. The directors of the school are CRJ's own clergy!

JEEP is CRJ's Jewish Education Engagement Program for Pre-K through sixth graders. The goal of JEEP is to provide Jewish education that is relevant and engaging, and isn't necessarily associated with the word "school." As such, we provide experiential, hands-on learning, sometimes even off-campus. We believe that Judaism is not limited to just the walls of CRJ and that one can be Jewish with pride anywhere.

Our "Tracks" on Sundays

Campus Track: Our normal and most frequent day with Shira u'T'filah, electives, and curriculum time.

We will begin with Shira u'T'filah (Song & Prayer) each Sunday in the sanctuary with songs, prayers, and a story. All parents are invited and encouraged to attend Shira u'T'filah.

The potential electives are Art, Drama, Music Making, and Interacting with Israelis. These choices will alternate with cooking for every grade, since that was most often requested by students for Interest Track last year. To encourage community-building throughout the older grades, the 3rd through 6th graders will be mixed in grades as they go to an elective of their choice for the semester. The Pre-K through 2nd graders will experience the electives as well, but in their own classrooms rather than mixed with other grades. This more spread-out system of electives is in lieu of the "Interest Track" from previous years.

Pop-Up Track: We go to a destination off-campus and be Jewish outside of CRJ's walls! Ideally, each one is in a different part of Orlando.

Family Track: Each Family Track is comprised of parents of a single grade spending the day with their children at JEEP. Parents will get to see what their kids are doing and engage in activities with them.

Topic Track: The whole school is together and focuses on a specific topic, such as a holiday.

Weekly Hebrew Tutoring
Unless requested to be in-person, all 3rd through 6th graders will have weekly 30-minute Hebrew lessons on Zoom. These will either be one-on-one or in groups of two students per tutor. Lessons occur at a time and day that is best for the students and tutors to connect. For the younger grades, who have Hebrew sprinkled in during their classes on Sundays (as do the older grades) the expectation is that students know all of the letters by the end of 2nd grade.

Parent Connections
There will be ample opportunities for parents to interact with one another and learn together during the JEEP sessions. We're also looking for more parents to be part of the JEEP Parent Committee, if that's you, please email Joshua Gottschall.

What parents are saying about JEEP:
"It is great! Our children sing songs they learn at JEEP very often. I can tell that they
are engaged, and that is the most important thing I can ask for in Jewish Education."

"JEEP is a positive experience. My children like coming, the time commitment
is manageable, and CRJ's values are present and aligned with our values."

"We love giving our children the opportunity to grow their Jewish identities at JEEP.
A fabulous Rabbi, Cantor, Teacher, Madricha, and staff helps!"

"I truly love that my children have opportunities to engage with their religion and culture as something other than just B'nai Mitzvah preparation. I love that CRJ, in conjunction with the Union and Shalom Orlando, provide opportunities for my kids to build positive experiences with their religion and with other children, especially in a place like Florida. JEEP is a key part of that."

If you have questions about the JEEP Program, please call (407) 645-0444 and ask to speak with Cantor Bryce or Rabbi Jackson, or email Cantor Bryce here.

About JEEP

JEEP'S GUIDING VALUES
  • A positive Jewish identity is fundamental.
  • Jewish learning and study are joyful and lifetime pursuits.
  • Acts of g’milut chasadim (loving kindness) and tzedakah (justice) are a way of life.
  • The Torah is a source of our values and traditions.
  • The home and the family are central to Jewish education. The synagogue and families are partners in shaping the next generation of committed Jews.
  • Prayer is personal and communal; a way to connect to God and the Jewish people.
  • Jewish life has a rhythm: Shabbat and the holidays include personal, family, and community experiences.
  • Our personal and community ties to Israel are strong and everlasting.
  • Jewish arts and culture add meaning to our lives.

    JUDAICS
  • A brand-new curriculum, which is innovative, experiential, developmentally appropriate, and based upon Social-Emotional Learning.
  • Learning is spiraled in such a way that students will revisit key content areas with increasing sophistication as they progress
  • Children also participate in TARBUT (culture) where students can explore Judaism through different forms of self expression.

    HEBREW
  • The learning of the Hebrew Aleph-Bet and core terms begins in Pre-K.
  • The goal is that by the time all students start studying for their Bar or Bat Mitzvah, they are able to read all prayers fluidly without transliteration.
  • Employing creative ways to integrate the meaning of prayers into students’ lives. The goal is for them not only to be able to read and chant the prayers, but also to understand the meaning behind them as well.
  • For 3rd through 6th graders, in addition to what Hebrew they learn on Sundays in-person, Hebrew is either taught individually or in small groups of no more than three based on Hebrew knowledge levels rather than by age. These lessons take place on Zoom or in-person with tutors during the week. Hebrew assessments take place at the beginning and end of the year. Progress reports are required after the first semester. If a 3rd through 6th grader enters JEEP at another time of the year, he/she must have an assessment with Cantor Bryce in order to be placed with the right Hebrew study buddy/buddies and tutor.
  • Hebrew is incorporated into lessons and activities on Sundays.
